Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the preparation for learning to read, to determine the factors causing difficulties in learning to read, and to find out solutions to overcome reading difficulties faced by grade II students of SD Negeri Pabuaran 01, Brebes Regency. The subjects of this study were grade II students at SD Negeri Pabuaran 01 which amounted to only 8 students, among the number of students there were 4 children who had difficulty reading, namely 2 boys and 2 girls. Data collection is done by observation, interviews, and documentation. Researchers go directly into the field to obtain supporting data and information. The method used is quantitative descriptive. Based on the results of research that there are still some students who have difficulty reading. The forms of difficulties experienced by grade II students of SD Negeri Pabuaran 01 are, students cannot understand sound symbols, students have difficulty recognizing punctuation marks, have not completely memorized letters of the alphabet, students cannot distinguish the shapes and sounds of letters that are almost the same, and students have difficulty spelling words. The inhibiting factors of reading are physiological factors, intellectual factors, internal factors, external factors, environmental factors, and psychological factors. Efforts are made by teachers to overcome reading difficulties by, conducting calistung programs, assigning assignments, learning outside the classroom, and providing motivation. In addition to teachers, the role of parents is also very important to support student learning success. As parents, you must always support, motivate, and accompany children when they are learning.
