Abstract

The low level of reading literacy skills among elementary school students, as indicated by difficulties in both technical aspects and reading comprehension, hinders the mastery of concepts, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement at the next level. This community service activity aims to improve students’ reading literacy by utilizing a reading board learning medium at SDN 01 Badak, Badak Village, Belik Sub-district, Pemalang Regency. The implementation method was carried out participatively by involving second-grade students through several stages, namely preparation, implementation, mentoring, and evaluation. The reading board medium was designed according to students’ abilities to help them recognize letters, form words, and understand simple sentences more easily. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement, with students appearing more enthusiastic, confident, and actively engaged in the learning process. Teachers also experienced a more interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere compared to conventional methods. The application of the reading board proved effective as an innovative learning strategy to enhance basic literacy skills.
