Reading interest among elementary school students, especially in lower grades, remains a challenge in early education. This community service activity aimed to enhance the reading motivation of 2nd grade students at SD Negeri Mulyasari through a visual and interactive approach using picture storybooks. The methods employed included socialization, participatory learning, and demonstration of the cheerful reading class, emphasizing students’ active involvement in reading and discussing story contents. The activity was carried out in several stages, including coordination with the school, preparation of materials, implementation, and evaluation. The results revealed an increase in students’ enthusiasm for reading, as reflected in their engagement during group reading sessions and discussions. Classroom teachers responded positively to the approach and expressed interest in adopting it for regular learning activities. This program had a positive impact on building early literacy culture. It is hoped that the Cheerful Reading Class model can be more widely implemented as a strategy for strengthening basic literacy in primary schools.
